The bank holidays are key to getting projects done in the home but as I write this one weekend before the bank holiday people are out in force mowing the lawns, painting and of course doing different types of building work. As you walk down the strett later in the day, suddenly the white wooden door now has changed ot a black composite door, the best selling colour currently. Tonight the BBQs will be on and many proud owners will stand there with glass of wine in hand looking over the days DIY work and improvements to their home.
As this site is dedicated to a big door and glass range this tends to be the main subject but fitting a new front door is only one link in the chain of owning that dream home and makes you fell good when you come home from work every night. The unfortunate things is, the UK does not get its fair share of good weather, so how you prepare your home is also based on winter conditions too, so that any work done in the spring remains at least until next year. the good thing about composite doors is that they last for over 30 years, so even in retirement you could be looking at the same composite door as today.
We are in the mist of bank holiday craziness that has us visiting DIY stores in our millions. The first Bank Holiday of May is normally the busiest and depending on weather closely followed by the second ban holiday at the end of May. Normally the DIY home projects have now started and the last weekend, finishes off what was started for a new front door to the garden. Talking about the front of the home, a huge door and glass range form Global have once again grown in size as public awareness takes over through this peak time. lets be honest when do you want there to be an open hole in the front of your home albeit for an hour or so, when the sun shining (we hope) during bank holiday weekend, or in November when we have decided we need to buy that composite door to keep the sold out.
The more sensible among us will do it now, when the cold is not here but also as part of the other DIY projects we are doing probably including the front garden. We can them enjoy looking at our composite doors as we mow the lawn through the summer. For those who may worry about the sun affecting their new composite door, well you need not worry as these doors can handle whatever the sun throws at it not just for years but for decades to come.
Stronger door frames also means stronger door furniture meaning door knockers and the like that will last time, not the cheap stuff you get from a DIY store that lasts 2 seasons if you are lucky.
When most doors were wood, the only eco challenge was if too many trees were being cut down to satisfy our need for new front doors. But moving forward into the 21sr century plus 10, there are more eco questions, such as the materials used for the front door and how they can be recycled at the end of their life.
The best alternative to wood and managed forests are composite doors that have a specific quality guidelines set down by a European Directive. Companies like Global supply these eco friendly composite doors that do more than keep the warmth in, but the manufacturing and materials used to make the door, go some way to ensure the end of life process is well within the European Directive set down for PVCu manufacturing.
There is a skill required in fitting any door, whether it be a traditional wood type to one that is supplied within a frame such as uPVC and the newer composite door. Obviously doing it yourself will save money, but when you are talking about a structure to keep out the weather, burglars and is expected to last around 20 years (if a composited door), it may be worth while considering using a professional Global fitting service.
How the door is measured, prepared and sealed is critical to the long lasting qualities of the door. Take composite doors for example, these doors come with the frame as one unit are are weather tight within the unit, the last thing you need is to not seal the frame correctly within the opening, or not getting the measuring right in the first place and need to use spacers, in a situation that did not need them.
The good news is that sealed units like composite doors, are often fitted within the day, including taking away the old door, which may mean using a professional fitting service may be right for you.
